Carl moved to the family farm in Plymouth at a young age.
He served in the National Guard and attended the University of Maine, eventually receiving a degree in computer programming. He served the State of Maine as an early data processor and computer programmer, retiring from the Office of Vital Records in Augusta.
Carl's roots always remained a big part of him. He loved to build things, as carpentry was his favorite pastime. He loved animals, especially his dogs. He was an avid traveler and loved compiling photo albums of his travels. He lived an active retirement with his wife, Jeanne, enjoying gardening and projects around his country home in Arcadia, Fla. While in Florida, he continued his love of education by enrolling at Impac University, graduating with a master's degree in business administration.
In addition to his wife, in Florida, Carl is survived by two sisters, Norma and husband George Fletcher of Palmyra, and Althea Tibbetts of Levant; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Clair, Lawrence and Lemont Gerry; and two sisters, Elaine Colbath and Geneva Basford.
Graveside committal services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, at the family lot in Detroit Village Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish may leave written tributes at www.CrosbyNeal.com.

I first met Carl when I went to work for the State of Maine in October of 1980. He was a great mentor and a good friend. My condolences to his family.
