Mrs. Pfarr was born on April 29, 1941, in Elgin, Ill., to George Joseph and Violet Virginia (Hanson) Stanek.
She attended Northern Illinois University.
She was a retired banker working in the past for Key Bank and First State Bank/Wells Fargo Bank.
She was married to Robert Lawrence Pfarr on Dec. 29, 1990, in Portland, Maine.
Mrs. Pfarr is survived by her husband, Robert Lawrence Pfarr, of Denton; sons Michael J. Kress and his wife, Judy, of Westwood, Mass., Stephen P. Kress and his wife, Carrie, of Aubrey, Texas, Daniel R. Kress and his wife, Laura, of Denton, and Theodore B. Kress of San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughters Kristin A. Blanchard and her husband, Josh, of Daphne, Ala., and Jennifer M. Proly and her husband, Ryan, of Tampa, Fla.; brothers Donald G. Stanek of Chapel Hill, Tenn., and Thomas E. Stanek of Sanger, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and former husband, Richard W. Kress II, of Pompano Beach, Fla.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday May 12, 2011, at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, in the chapel of Denton Bible Church, 2300 University Drive, Denton. The Rev. Mike Spencer will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be George D. Kress, Joshua P. Kress, Matthew J. Kress, Michael J. Kress II and Jordon P. Kress.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Denton Humane Society, P.O. Box 1972, Denton, TX 76202. Online condolences may be left at www.mulkeymasondenton.com.

My deepest sympathies to the entire Kress and Pfarr families. I am so sorry to learn of Joan's passing. I thought the world of her. She was an admirable lady and will be dearly missed.
