He was born Dec. 13, 1947 in Skowhegan to Harold and Bertha (Tozier) Withee. Doug graduated from Madison High School with the class of 1966 and attended SMVTI in Portland. He entered the Army in January 1969 and received an honorable discharge in March 1973. During his life he worked many jobs, retiring from the Springfield Rail Terminal.
Douglas was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by the love of his life, Dorothy Marie Withee of Winslow; his children and their spouses, Steven and Becky, Richard and Jutta, Donald and Diana, Karen and Larry, Keith and Johnna, Sean and Jennifer, Mark and Maria, Edward and Lina; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Ralph and Charlotte, Clifford and Janice, Gloria and Raymond, Alice, Joan, and Mae all of Madison; and many close friends.
A special thank-you goes to the doctors and nurses at the VA Center in West Roxbury, Mass. and at the Togus VA Hospice Unit.
Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Fisher House/Boston c/o V.A. Boston Health Care System, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
Visiting hours will be held 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday Feb. 1, 2011 at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St. in Madison. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday Feb. 2, at the Madison Congregational Church UCC on Main Street in Madison with Dr. Susan Tierney officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at St. Francis Cemetery in Waterville.
