She was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Winslow to Leonard and Olive Simpson Hapworth and was the last survivor of eight children.
She was a graduate of Winslow High School and received her bachelor of arts from Colby College in 1938. She married Chauncey Erskine in 1938 and together they had four children. She taught English and French in the Winslow school system for many years, and was active in local civic organizations including the Winslow Grange, where she was known for her cooking and baking, especially her whoopee pies and molasses cookies. In later years, she was an avid reader and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and playing dominoes.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Chauncey; and daughters Mary Krueger and Patricia Erskine. She is survived by son Thomas Erskine (Edna Quinn) of Portland; and daughter Judith Jackson (Gordon) of Clermont; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grand children.
A 2 p.m. memorial service will be held on June 13 at Winslow Congregational -- United Church of Christ, 12 Lithgow St., Winslow, ME 04901-7149; 872-2544. Inurnment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery of Waterville, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in her name to the American Diabetes Association Inc. at www.diabetes.org/honor.

I remember all the great summers we would spend together at Aunt Florence and Uncle Chaunecys camp. She was always big on making her famous strawberry shortcake with bisicuts,they were the best!! Our hearts go out to Judy and Tom and their families,she will be greatly missed. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Glad we have the memories!!
