He was born in North Vassalboro on March 25, 1923, the son of William H. and Mary Elizabeth (Peace) Fitton.
Mr. Fitton was a 1941 graduate of Waterville High School and served four years in the Army Air Corps. He worked for Fayscott, Hollingsworth & Whitney, and Keyes Fibre Co. in the engineering department, retiring in 1988. He served on the Waterville City Council, as alderman for Waterville and on the Waterville Water District Board. He was a former member of the Masons, and enjoyed motorcycling, woodworking, golfing, bowling, and spending time with his family on Great Pond at the camp he built.
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Mary, who died in 1968; brothers Arnold, Herbert and William Fitton; and his two sisters, Doris Clark and Florence Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn (Weymouth) Fitton, of Winslow, whom he married in 1970; four sons, James and Kathleen Fitton and Paul and Kathy Fitton, of Texas, Keith and Tina Fitton and Michael Fitton and Linda Wilson, of Waterville; daughter Bonnie Brady and husband Thomas of Portland; step-daughter Dawn Weymouth and Dan Palow of Fairfield; step-son Scott and Lorraine Weymouth of North Attleboro, Mass.; brother Kenneth and June Fitton of Coward, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville. A reception will follow at the Waterville Veterans of Foreign Wars at 3 p.m.

So very sorry to hear of Uncle Jimmy's passing. He will greatly be missed by friends & family. He had such a great sense of humor & I always remember him making me smile even when I was a young child!
