He was a World War II veteran. He lived many years in Bridgewater. He spent 44 years as a truck driver for many people. He enjoyed stock car racing, fishing, playing cards and bingo.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Limestone; daughter Judih Pendleton of Waterville; two sons, Ernest Cochran and Suzie of Camden, and Stephen Cochran and Faith of Easton; a special nephew, Mike, and Kathy Crawford of Presque Isle; three sisters, Glen Oxton of Rockland, Charlene Thompson and Marie Hamilton of Connecticut; grandchildren Kenneth Smith and Connie Cummings of Littleton, Joseph Smith and Janet Marston of Appleton Ridge, Jimmy Smith of Wiscasset, Harry and Diedra Smith of Morrow, and Steven and Kathy Smith of Waterville, Todd and Heather Cochran of Caribou, Sarah Cochran of Manhattan, N.Y., Isiah and Trish Cochran of Pennsylvania, Thor Cochran of Fort Fairfield, and Abby and Matt Powers of Bridgewater; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; five stepsons, John and Elaine Burns of Oakland, Charlie and Timmy Burns of Limestone, Dana and Kelly Burns of Massachusetts, and Patrick and Pansy Burns of Presque Isle; 11 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren; and a special friend JJ Bell of Limestone.
He was predeceased by his parents; seven brothers; two sisters; a great-great-grandson; and the mother of his children, Jennie Cochran.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lester Knowlton Post 9389 of Caribou and the American Legion Post 127 in Limestone.
Military services will be May 6 at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery on Washburn Road in Caribou with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. A gathering will follow at the VFW Hall in Caribou.
