Michael joined the Navy in May 1965 and served as an E4 electrical repairman on aircraft for three years before receiving an honorable discharge.
He belonged to IBEW Local 1253 as a master electrician for 38 years, where he became a supervisor for many industrial and commercial projects. He was a member of the Waterville Elks Club, the American Legion Bourque-Lanigan Post 5, and Corpus Christi Parish.
He was very athletic and played in men's softball leagues as a pitcher for many years. He also played basketball and was a great bowler who even considered going pro at a young age. He loved playing poker and spent many of his retirement years frequenting his favorite casinos and at many local poker games.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gus J. Perry and Catherine (Curran) Perry.
He is survived by his two children, Suzanne M. Dempsey of Winthrop, and Michael G. Perry and his wife, Amanda, of Oakland; six grandchildren: Patrick Dempsey, Derrick Dempsey, Courtney Turner, Chelsea Perry, Jacob Perry and Brayden Perry; a sister, Rosanne Blaney, of Avondale, Pa.; three nieces, Lisa Harvitz, Michelle Panichi and Karen Long; a nephew, Richard Stratten Jr.; and a very special aunt, Constance "Aunt Connie" Perry.
A special thank-you goes to all the staff at Oak Grove Nursing Care Center and HealthReach HomeCare & Hospice for their care and support during his stay.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland. A Mass celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in his memory to Catholic Charities of Maine, 66 Western Ave., Waterville, ME 04963.
