He started his postal career as a rural carrier associate and after many years of dedication and hard work he became postmaster for the town of Hampden. He operated his own farm in Troy and was an avid turkey hunter, enjoying the outdoors. He spent his last day 4-wheeling with his family and they had a wonderful day together. He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Sarah Rogers.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Village Cemetery, Route 220, in Detroit, with Maynard Weeks officiating.

Larry and Rufena and family,
Mary and I are very sorry to hear of the passing of 'Little Richard'. Mary, Polly and I last saw him at the Olive Garden in South Portland several years ago. He was full of fun and we really enjoyed our brief time with him.
This is a very sad time for many, but roses will bloom again.

Rufena and family,
Words can never express what our hearts want to say when a kind man passes,so young. I had the opportunity to have worked with Dick and his father through the postal service, both of them always had a twinkle in the eyes, kind words, and left you with a smile on your face.
Dick, I am sure you will be watching everyone from above. Thank you for the rides during the big ice storm, and for just being you.

Your family was truly blessed to have had you. Chris, you and Dick were soul brothers......memories keep us going, when we are feeling sad.
Blessings to you and your family,

Last Friday when I came off the route, Dick and I laughed because that morning I had gotten the whistling theme song to Andy Griffith stuck in his head - all day. When
I finished work, he was with a line of customers so I did not say the usual
" see ya, thank you, let's do this again", nor did I tease him about the upcoming turkey hunt. I regret that. This past week I have noticed myself and others using his words i.e." Ehtz Alright!" and "Hey boss".In this sad time it makes me laugh. Has anyone else noticed most memories of Dick end in laughter?
I will always be grateful for the opportunity of working for Postmaster Weeman. From the start what we saw is what we got, and we always knew where things stood thanks to Dick. We appreciated him daily, and told him that often. This has been a very difficult week, may we all carry on remembering all that he brought to life.
This carrier feels he was an excellent Postmaster, I hear his safety talks as I go through the day, and have asked myself what would Dick do? He had a talent for relating to all in a way that was thoughtful of one's dignity. Because of this I respect him immensley, which is why I never minded listening to his Turkey CD's in the office.
My heart goes out to his family and friends, most of whom I have not met, but feel I know through his many funny stories. His love for you all was clearly the biggest joy in his life.

A father is a source of strength,
A teacher & a guide,
The one his family looks up to
With loving trust & pride. . .
A father is a helper
With a willing hand to lend,
A partner, an advisor,
And the finest kind of friend.

A Father means so many things...
A understanding heart,
A source of strength and of support
Right from the very start.
A constant readiness to help
In a kind and thoughtful way.
With encouragement and forgiveness
No matter what comes your way.
A special generosity and always affection, too
A Father means so many things

i will miss you everyday, and will think of all the good times to get me through..i love you Dad.

Dick was a wonderful person, smart, fun, funny and great to work with. Even though I hadn't seen him in a number of years, I thought of him often, and when I did, I always smiled. Somehow the world was a better place knowing he was in it. His passing leaves a void in many hearts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Rufena and family, I am sorry to hear about Dick's passing. He was a good person and a friend. He was fun to work with and very committed to his job. He will be missed but not forgotten. Chris, I know how hard it must be for you losing a good friend, sometimes it is as if it was your brother when we use to see you and Dick together and all the good stories you had. Those stories will keep you going in a sad time like this and don't forget the good times that the both of you had. cherish them and always remember them. Sometimes it seems that is not fair to take someone so young.
