Norma Lawrence Obituary

Norma M. Lawrence, 79
KENNEBUNK - Norma M. Lawrence, 79, of Kennebunk and recently Sanford, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Norma was born in Moncton, N.B. on June 2, 1936, to Joseph A. Leblanc and Anna (Goguen) Leblanc. She moved to Gardner, Mass., as a baby.
Norma was raised in Gardner. She married George Lawrence on Aug. 13, 1955. They continued to live in Gardner for a while then relocated to Maine, settling in Kennebunk where they stayed for many years. Norma relocated to Sanford two years ago to be closer to her son and daughter.
Norma was a bookkeeper for many years after high school. She later stayed home to raise her five children. Upon returning to the workforce when her children were older she first worked at Morningstar for many years. After Morningstar, Norma returned to the work she loved – bookkeeping and accounting at various places in Kennebunk and Arundel. Her last place of employment was Riverridge in Kennebunk.
Norma was predeceased by both her parents; her two younger siblings, Nancy Hanks and Donald Leblanc; her husband George; and three of her children, Susan Cole, Donna Trude and James (Jimmy) Lawrence; along with many close friends including Jeanne Lamarand, Helen Cormier, Gertrude Soucy and Irma Lord to name a few.
She is survived by her son, William "Bill" Lawrence and his wife Diane, her daughter, Linda Frederick and her husband Bill; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Roxanne, Sandy, Ryan, Angela, Nathan, Heather, David, Caleb, and Steven; and by 11 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to take this time to thank the Gosnell Hospice House for all they did for Norma and all of us during her last few weeks.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Martha's Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk. Norma was one of the nicest people I have ever come across during my career in healthcare. She never complained even when she was feeling poorly, and was always grateful to those who cared for her. She remained positive and kept a smile on her face. She never seemed afraid which I can only attribute to her strong faith in God the Father. Being a Christian myself we had this connection, and also a love for strawberry rhubarb pie. My only regret in knowing Norma is that I did not bring her a slice of her favorite pie before she passed away. I am happy she is no longer suffering and I pray for God to take care of her now.
