Metcalf, 71
PORTLAND -- Barry Gene Metcalf, 71, of Portland, passed away on June 17, 2010.
He was born on April 15, 1939, in Kings Mountain, N.C., to Aurilla Metcalf. When he was seven years old he moved to Moore, S.C., where he was raised by his mother and step father Robert C. Cogdell.
At the age of 17 Barry joined the Navy and he was stationed in Maine. Barry loved to travel around the U.S. and every few years he would come to Maine to visit his children.
He was predeceased by his mother, step father; a sister, Shirley J. Rogers; and a son, David Scott Metcalf. He is survived by a son, Barry M. and his wife August of South Portland, two daughters, Tina M. and Roberta L., both of Portland; six grandchildren, Dale Metcalf and his wife Lisa of Biddeford, Riannon Farris of Westbrook, Alex Matt of South Portland, Regina, Renee and Rose Stait of Portland; and two great- grandsons, Dale Jr. and Charles of Biddeford.
A memorial graveside service with Military Honors will be held on July 8, at 10 a.m., at the chapel at Maine Veterans' Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta. Dad you weren't around much when I was growing up but I always look forward to you visiting me. I remember you giving me shoulder rides to the store for an ice cream, taking me to Deering Oaks, and telling me of your life traveling around the United States. I'm glad you got to met your grand daughters before you left this world. They will always remember GRAMPIE TICKLES. Love you Dad. Bobbie
