Hardison, 84
SOUTH PORTLAND -- Lester F. (Buddy) Hardison, 84, of Ocean View Avenue, died on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Maine Veterans' Home with his family by his side.
Lester was born in Portland on July 2, 1926, the son of Lester H. and Vivian Huntley Hardison. He attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School. Following High School he served in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II as a mechanic and was stationed in Hawaii.
On April 24, 1950, he married Rosemary Anna Mulherin in Portland.
Lester worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in the Thornton Heights area, retiring after 40 years of service. In his spare time, Lester could usually be seen attending some type of sporting event in which one of his children, and later his grandchildren was involved. He cared for many of his grandchildren after school and also coached their teams during Little League Baseball. He was an avid supporter of High School sports. Lester also loved animals, especially his cats.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary; a sister, Rita Gray, and a brother, Harold Hardison. He is survived by two daughters, Carol and her husband Stratos Demakis of South Portland, Janet Brady and her husband George Hamelin of Merritt Island, Fla., two sons, Peter and his wife Cathy of South Portland, and Thomas and his wife Carole of Scarborough; six grandchildren, Brian Dunphe, Kelly Brooks, Meghan Hardison, Kevin Hardison, David Hardison and Michael Brady; four great-grandchildren, Payton and Ethan Dunphe, and Tatum and Quinn Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at Conroy- Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A funeral service will follow at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Online condolences may be expressed at www.ctcrawford.com.
