Richard Carr Obituary

Richard Allen
'Red' Carr, 81
SANFORD -- Richard 'Red' Carr, 81, of Sanford, passed away on May 6, 2011, at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brief illness.
Born on April 24, 1930, to Phyllis and A. Homer Carr, Richard was raised in Falmouth and graduated from Falmouth High School.
Mr. Carr served in the United States Air Force. He married Patricia Cleaves Carr and returned to Maine to raise their family.
Richard worked many years for Pratt Abbott Cleaners and Alltex Uniform Rental Services before his retirement. Upon his retirement, he married Joyce Weeks Carr and moved to Sanford. Mr. and Mrs. Carr were members of the AMVETS and VFW in Sanford.
Red was a friendly man with a wonderful sense of humor, endearing to all who were lucky enough to know him. He was a kind and patient father, a loving husband, and a loyal worker who worked long hours to provide for his family. He never lost his sense of humor, as well as his enjoyment of a good cup of coffee, a crabmeat roll, and a refreshing afternoon nap. Richard most enjoyed being in the company of good friends and spending time with his beloved family.
Mr. Carr was predeceased by his mother, Phyllis Hodgkins Carr; father, Albert Homer Carr; as well as his wife, Patricia Cleaves Carr. Richard is survived by his wife, Joyce Weeks Carr and her son Ronald Weeks of Sanford; his brother, Brent Carr and wife Diane of Brunswick; his daughters, Belinda Carr Mooers and Jean Schroeder of Cape Elizabeth, Pamela Carr Prevost and husband Rick of Topsham, his son, Jeffrey Carr of Lisbon; his grandchildren, Kathryn Mooers Lamb and her husband Bill of Portland, Kyler Mooers of Portland, Monique and Michelle Prevost of Topsham, Nicholas Levesque of Lewiston; great-grandchildren, Braden and Daisy Lamb of Portland; and several cousins; nieces and nephews.
We will all miss our father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, but we are thankful for the wonderful 81 years that we enjoyed having him in our lives.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Maine Medical Center in Portland and the Newton Center in Sanford for the kindness and care they provided to Mr. Carr.
A memorial service with military honors will be held to honor Mr. Carr at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 82 Stanley Rd., Springvale, on Monday, May 16, at 1 p.m. Friends and family members are welcome to attend. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
The Carr family would like to
suggest that in lieu of memorial donations/flowers, that you take a moment today to visit a local
nursing home or elderly neighbor, and put a smile on someone's face. Tell them that Red sent you!

We still tell the story about many years ago, our cat got into your Dad's work truck. Your Dad didn't see it until he was on his way, but he took the time to turn around and let it out at home! It still makes us smile how nice he was !
