Stanley L. Aldrich, 86
     WINDHAM -- Stanley L. Aldrich, 86, of Pope Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at a Westbrook health care facility.
     Born in Mirlo, Wis., he was a son of Loyal B. and Elizabeth Stanley Aldrich. Mr. Aldrich was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a graduate of Northland College in Ashland, Wis. He and his wife moved to Windham in 1957. He taught math at Windham High School for many years and was a proponent of technology. He had a huge impact on the school system, introducing the age of technology and instilling a passion and commitment to the arts.
     Stan devoted his life to teaching and sharing insight and ideas to school children and the community. He built the first underground home in town, was anti-war and pro-environment. In his retirement, Stan went to the elementary school to teach students how to play chess as well as teaching gifted children. He enjoyed birdwatching.
     Surviving him are his wife, Donna Jean Olson Aldrich of Windham; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Aldrich of Ft. Washington, Md., and Geanne C. Aldrich of Chandler, Ariz.
     An hour of visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. The Rev. Lawrence Weeks will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot at Friends Cemetery, Windham.
