Richard Thomas Flanagan

Richard Thomas Flanagan, 87, of Berwyn, PA, died Saturday, October 11, 2014 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Marguerite Patricia (Hernon) Flanagan of Berwyn, his brother James E. Flanagan of New York City, and his children Joan McCarthy (Ned), Patty Cieri (Tony), and Richard Flanagan (Laura). He was predeceased by his son Thomas Flanagan (Jean). He was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Will and Molly McCarthy; Isabella, Grace, and Christine Cieri; and Gavin and Taegan Flanagan. Mr. Flanagan was born on May 19, 1927 in Troy, New York. He was a graduate of Garden City High School on Long Island and earned a bachelor of science degree in Industrial Management from Syracuse University. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After his second tour of duty, Mr. Flanagan joined the Minneapolis Honeywell Regulator Company in New York City. He was later assigned to the Yamatake Honeywell office in Tokyo, Japan where he spent five years carrying out assignments throughout the Far East. He returned to the States in 1961, moving first to San Francisco, then settled in Berwyn, Pennsylvania in 1965. After leaving Honeywell, he worked for Johns-Manville, starting in sales and marketing in Philadelphia, and later working in Corporate Marketing based in Washington, DC. After retiring from Johns-Manville, he enjoyed a successful second career in real estate on the Main Line. Mr. Flanagan enjoyed skiing, sailing, tennis and spending time with family and friends. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at St. Monica's Church in Berwyn, PA.
