Beatrice Shattuck Obituary

Beatrice "Bea" Marie Shattuck 92, of Willistown Township, died at her home on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Bea was born in Michigan, raised in Tuckahoe, NJ and resided in Willistown Township all of her adult life. She was married to the late George "Spike" Shattuck. Bea worked with her husband in his excavating firm, was a homemaker and later was self-employed. She and Spike literally built their own home together. Bea was an excellent mortar mixer. She enjoyed reading, music, gardening, sailing and long daily walks. Bea loved dogs, especially her terrier, McDougal. She is survived by her sister, Sue Cook of New York; nephews Mark (Michelle) Shattuck, Scott (Cheryl) Shattuck, Neil (Carol) Shattuck and her niece, Hiliary (Brad) Remick. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph French and Beatrice Varner French, and a sister, Mary Anne. Bea was a very independent person. She was elegant, rough and ready, and never lost her curiosity of the world around her. She was good to her friends and a wonderful aunt. She will be missed and fondly remembered. A memorial gathering will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Founds Funeral Home, Inc., 229 South High Street, West Chester, 610-696-0134. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bea's name to the Chester County SPCA, 1212 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA 19380; or to a charity of your choice. I learned so much about people and
life from this wonderful , independent ,and energetic woman who was so unique and special . She introduced me to many things , including listening to Pavarotti . One of Bea's favorite sayings that she repeated to me often was , " You take people as you find them " . I will never forget you .
