Barbara C. McCabe, (nee Messmer), 80, on October 3, 2014 of Hershey's Mill, West Chester, PA. Beloved wife of James L. McCabe, Jr., M.D.; loving mother of Mary K. Flieger (Scott) of New York, NY, James L. McCabe, III, M.D. (Lisa) of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Joseph A. McCabe (Debbie) of Villanova, PA, Richard P. McCabe (Amy) of Middletown, DE, Michael I. McCabe (Sandra) of Berwyn, PA, Barbara M. Ciambotti (Jonathan) of Charlottesville, VA and Christine M. Day (Galen) of Paoli, PA; loving grandmother of 20 grandchildren; dear sister of Elizabeth Manning and Mary Lou Messmer. Barbara was a school nurse in the Lower Merion School District for 25 years. She was a Norbertine Associate at the Daylesford Abbey for many years, and served in the Stephen Ministry. She also volunteered at the Community Volunteers in Medicine in West Chester, a health clinic for the uninsured. Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation after 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 and to her Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. at the Daylesford Abbey, 220 S. Valley Road, Paoli, PA 19301. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA. In lieu of flowers, the McCabe family requests donations be made out to Daylesford Abbey for the purpose of the Barbara (Bobbie) McCabe Endowment Fund for Stephen Ministry. The Stephen Ministry is a Christian Ministry that involves one-on-one compassionate listening for anyone who has experienced personal loss on any level.
