Charles S. Vogan Sr.

1926 - 2014

Charles S. Vogan, Sr., 87, of Berwyn, passed away on Tuesday November 4, 2014 at Chester Valley Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of Malvern. Born in Philadelphia PA, he was the son of the late Scott B. and Marie E. (Kenmuir) Vogan. He was a graduate of Tredyffrin-Easttown High School and entered the United States Navy in 1944. He served in WWII as a signalman on the USS John Paul Jones and the USS Williamsburg. In 1946, he was appointed as Naval Aide to President Harry S. Truman. In 1949, he married Mary Ann (Adelberger) Vogan. He earned a BS in Economics at Villanova and an MBA at Temple University. His career began as a senior auditor at Coopers and Lybrand. He later served in an executive management capacity at various companies, including Eltra Corporation (Plymouth Meeting PA), Marshalltown Manufacturing (Marshalltown IA), Revere Corporation (Wallingford CT) and The Budd Company. Most recently he volunteered as a business consultant for SCORE in West Chester PA. Charles belonged to St. Monica's parish. During his life he was a member of St. David's Golf Club and Chester Valley Golf Club. He is survived by his son Capt. Charles S. Vogan, Jr., USN (Ret) and wife Linda; daughter Patricia Ann Birnbaum and her husband Raemond; Daughter Mary E. Vogan; son John F. Vogan; and son David M. Vogan and his wife Lori. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00AM on Monday November 10, 2014, at The Church of St. Monica, 635 First Avenue, Berwyn, PA 19312, where family and friends may call from 10:00AM to 11:00AM.
