Edward A. Flood Jr. age 85, died at his Waverly Heights home in Gladwyne, PA on Wednesday August 29, 2012 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Mr. Flood had a successful career as a senior corporate lending executive at Philadelphia National Bank. Over his career, Mr. Flood provided credit facilities, banking services and business advice to leading regional companies such as Alco Standard and Perdue Farms. Mr. Flood was an avid and talented yachtsman. In his youth, Mr. Flood was a competitive small boat sailor in southern New Jersey, and, acknowledging his skills, a custom Moth boat was designed for him at the age of 12. Mr. Flood later graduated to larger boats where he actively competed in events such as the Newport to Bermuda race and The Corinthians racing events in the Chesapeake Bay and New England. Mr. Flood was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Clubs of Philadelphia and Cape May, the former where he served as Commodore. Mr. Flood was born on August 16, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Edward A. and Dorothea N. Flood. He graduated from Central High School, in Philadelphia, in 1945 and after serving one-year in the US Navy, Mr. Flood matriculated to Lafayette College, where he graduated in 1950 with a BA in Economics. On October 21, 1950, Mr. Flood married Anne Middleton, the daughter of Herbert H. and Anna E. Middleton. They had two daughters, Susan and Nancy, and resided for many years in Haverford, PA. In addition to his passion for sailing, Mr. Flood loved fishing and Stone Harbor, NJ where he shared many years of special summer experiences with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was also a loyal sports fan supporting the Phillies and Eagles through their peaks and valleys. Mr. Flood was an enthusiastic volunteer, serving as a deacon and elder at The Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. He was a member of The Union League and The Merion Cricket Club. Mr. Flood is survived by his wife Anne, his daughters, Susan and Nancy, and their husbands, William Thorkelson and Turner Smith, his five grandchildren and their spouses, David and Ann Thorkelson, Anne and Scott Fagan, Kristin Thorkelson, Turner Smith Jr., Elizabeth Smith, his great grandson, William Francis Thorkelson, his niece Deborah Murray and nephew Richard Flood. Mr. Flood was predeceased by his brother Richard H. Flood. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Flood at The Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010, on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
