Elizabeth Burns Obituary

Elizabeth King Burns age 90, of Springfield, PA, (formerly of Villanova), died January 29, 2013 at Springfield Commons. Daughter of the late John P. and Kathryn (nee Malley) King, she grew up in the Oak Lane section of Philadelphia near the Carmelite Monastery, where she would often stop to visit the chapel on her way home from Melrose Academy where she was educated by the French speaking Grey Nuns. She graduated from Rosemont College where she excelled as a student of the Humanities and developed her talents in music and art. In 1945 she married William G. Burns Sr., an exceedingly handsome veteran of the war in the pacific and a devoted husband who predeceased her in 2010. Together they were blessed with 11 children. Mrs. Burns was particularly committed to her belief in the importance of a good education. Each child was unique and required a uniquely appropriate education. She followed through, making all of the required arrangements and driving untold hours, to drop 11 children off at a long list of different schools. Survived by her 11 children: William G. Jr,. (Sarah Gilbert), of Avalon, NJ., Trina Wynne (Peter), of Bryn Mawr, Pa., John K. (Lisa Hemphill), of Phila., Pa., Lisa O'brien (Mark) of Swarthmore, Pa., Mara Burns, of Phila., Pa. Margy Knight (Steve), of Wynthrop, ME., Sara Burns (Bob Allen), Manchester, ME., Daria Burns (Michael Hamilton), and Maryane Burns (Paul Moutal) both of Topsham, ME., Nick (Gabriela Ghilardi) of Owing Mills, MD., Chris Burns (Lisa McGiff), of Burlington, VT. 23 Grandchildren, 6 Great-Grandchildren, and many loving Relatives and Friends. It was an honor to be Elizabeth's caregiver and comforter in the end..May she rest in peace..She is singing with the Angels in Heaven and is in the loving arms of her beloved husband Bill and family and friends and our Lord..My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family and friends..peace.
