Geertruida Noordergraaf Obituary

Geertruida (Truus) Alida Noordergraaf May 28, 1928 - January 10, 2013 Born in The Netherlands, Truus was a social worker, and lived her life giving to others. After moving to Haverford with her husband and children in 1965, she chose to stay at home to help her young children adjust to a new language and life. However, she utilized her professional skills in a variety of programs. She was an active volunteer in the schools her children attended, teaching art appreciation, especially of the Dutch Masters. She was Chair of the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Children's Village in Rosemont, and President of the Board of Directors of CONTACT, earning the Benjamin Rush Award, given by the Philadelphia County Medical Society for outstanding contributions to the community's health and welfare. She further served as Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice. In 1999 she fulfilled one of her dreams and moved back to The Netherlands where she again became active as a volunteer in the community. She became ill in 2007 and entered a nursing home in 2009. She passed away peacefully and is buried with her parents in The Netherlands. She is survived by her children: Annemiek and Jim (Wynnewood, PA), Gerrit Jan and Cathy (The Netherlands), Jeske and Jim (MN), and Alexander and Lori (NH) and grandchildren: Max, Marielle, Jeske, Tristan, Cyril, Clay, Vanya and Danil. Although many of us lived far away from her, we visited often. Contributions in her name can be made to Presbyterian Children's Village, Development Office, 452 South Roberts Rd, Rosemont PA 19010.
