JOHN J. CLUTZ Jr.

JOHN J. CLUTZ, JR., 81, died Monday, April 22, 2013 in Haverford, PA. He was born June 20, 1931 in Gettysburg, PA to John J. Clutz and Agnes Gudrun Hammer . He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Sweet) Clutz in May 2011 and a brother, Christopher Hammer Clutz. John was a 1948 graduate of Radnor High School and a 1952 Phi Beta Kappa engineering graduate of Princeton University. His major extracurricular activity was singing (Glee Club, Octet and Chapel Choir) plus NROTC. He spent three years in the US Navy finishing his tour of duty on the submarine USS Bluegill. He married Patricia Sweet in December of 1953. After naval duty he returned to Philadelphia to work for The Rohm & Haas Co. He became President of Rohm & Haas Canada and Business Director of their Latin American Division. Patty and John returned to the Philadelphia area in 1978 where they both became very involved in a myriad of activities. John loved music, sailing, volunteering at the Zoo, dogs and Princeton. John with his rich deep bass voice sang with the The Savoy Opera Company, The Counterparts (a cappella jazz group), The Philadelphia Revels, Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Senior Choir and the Wayne Oratorio Society. His Princeton activities included being Class Treasurer for 15 years and Vice President for 5 years. In June 2012 he was elected Class President at the 60th reunion making him the longest-serving class officer. John J. Clutz - Page 2 He was a great dog lover and a trusted friend and treasurer of the Harford Dog Park Club in Radnor. He always had biscuits in his pocket for his dog friends. Survivors include his brother Dr. Richard B. Clutz and wife Robin of Williamstown, MA and sister Signe Hammer of New York City and six nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA.
