Jay W. Lord Jr.

Obituary Condolences

Jay W. (Bill) Lord Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wed. November 14 after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Wayne and known to all as Bill, he was the son of the late Jay Willard Lord Sr. and Marion Mac Nabb Lord. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Beatrice McGrath with whom he resided at Rosemont Presbyterian Village, his loving children Findlay Lord Kendrick (Charles H.), Jay W. Lord III and Amy Lord Shields (Larry); Grandchildren, Amanda Birchard Kimball (Todd), Scott L. Shields, Molly Lord Shields, Chelsea Lee Lord and Sarah Vail Lord; and Great Grandchildren William T. Kimball and Samantha Lord Kimball. Bill was a loyal Radnorite (class of '37) and a graduate of Drexel University with his degree in mechanical engineering. He was also a very active member of St. David's Episcopal Church for over 30 years where he volunteered for many out reach programs through the church including tutoring a church-sponsored Vietnamese family in the English language. He was an elected member of the vestry, was active in the St. David's Men's Group and volunteered at a local soup kitchen. As a proud WW II Navy Pilot, Bill rode in the American Legion car in the annual, Wayne Fourth of July parade and participated in the laying of the wreath ceremonies. He kept in touch with the members of his squadron over the years and attended several reunions. Always fun loving and active, Bill was a Wayne Little league coach and an enthusiastic tennis player in earlier years. He played every week at the Martin's Dam Swim Club where the entire Lord family belonged for many years. He enjoyed yearly family summer vacations at Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos and trips to New England. Many of the people he touched over his long and wonderful life considered him a mentor and a leader - one who led by quiet example. Above all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and will be missed by the many friends, far and near, that he continually made during his life time.
