Jeannie Platow Obituary

Jeannie Platow age 68, lost her short but courageous battle with cancer on November 25th, 2012. Born in Mineola, N.Y. on November 6, 1944, Jeannie was the daughter of the late Archibald and Jean Mills Macfarlane. Jeannie grew up in Weston, Connecticut and worked as an airline stewardess, and in corporate marketing for Homequity of Wilton, CT. She also worked at MRA International in London, England. She was married in 1972, and was incredibly proud of her two daughters, Jean of Philadelphia and Jennifer of New York City. In 1985 the family moved to London, where the girls attended a British school. The family went on to move to Holland in 1989 and Paris in 1991, returning to Haverford, PA in 1994. Jeannie was an active and loving parent, entering and winning the "mums" race at the girls' school in England, heading up the PTA in Holland, and coaching Jenny's basketball league. While the girls were in school at Agnes Irwin, Jeannie also got very involved in volunteering with the school. Jeannie loved to cook, and took cooking classes in Paris. She will be remembered for her fabulous meals, especially around the holidays, and for being an active volunteer in the community. Most importantly, she will be forever remembered for being an incredible wife, mother and friend to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Chip; daughters, Jean and Jennifer; brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Kathie; and her nieces and nephews, Katie and Chris Graves and Jim Macfarlane, as well as David, Daniel and Christopher Platow. A memorial service will be held at a later date in January at Christ Episcopal Church, in St. Michaels, Maryland, where she and Chip has lived for the past ten years. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Essex Street Academy, where her youngest daughter, Jenny is a teacher.
