John B. Fitzgerald Jr. Obituary
John B. Fitzgerald Jr 91, of Devon on November 2, 2013. Beloved husband of Dorothy Jean (nee Hostettler), loving father of Ellen, Tonie and John B. III . He was born outside of Chicago, IL and grew up during the depression. He enjoyed Scouting and rose to the Rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from High School in 1940 he joined the National Guard just before Pearl Harbor. Jack was shipped to Pacific, fighting in the battles for Guadalcanal where he was wounded, receiving a Purple heart, and Bouganville. Shipped back to the US he attended Officers Candidates School returning to combat on Okinawa where he was awarded a Silver Star. At the end of the war he was sent to occupy Korea, returning to the US in 1945. He attended The University of Illinois where he met and married Dorothy. Both graduated in 1949 with degrees and a daughter. He continued in law school till he was recalled for 18 months for the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star. Returning in 1952 he began work in the insurance industry, rising to Vice President in Cigna Corp. and President of Cigna Bond Services when he retired in 1989. He remained active in the insurance industry as a board member of an International Company and writing a two volume text. Jack also served on the Radnor School Board in the 1970's and as an Elder in Wayne Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday November 16, 2013 at The Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 East Lancaster Ave., Wayne, Pa. 19087. Internment Private. Stuard F- H Ardmore
