Josefina R. Guerra Obituary
Josefina Recio Aguero de Guerra passed away at her home in Devon at the age of 93 at 8:01am, October 1st 2012, on the Feast of St.Thrse of Lisieux, to whom she was deeply devoted. Unexpectedly diagnosed with aggressive sarcoma, she accepted all her suffering with grace and complete trust in God. She is survived by her spouse, Juan Ignacio Guerra y Aym, her children, Mara Josefa Guerra-Fitzgerald, Antonio Guerra, Julia Guerra-Sponseller, Anita Guerra, Juan Ignacio Guerra Jr., and Teri Guerra-Soldat; numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was born on April 14th, 1919 in Camagey, Cuba and came to Philadelphia after the Cuban Revolution in 1961 in order to reunite with her four eldest children, placed in St. Vincent's Orphanage through Operation Peter Pan. When her husband was finally able to join the rest of the family, they settled on the Main Line where she founded the Spanish Department at the Shipley School. She attended the Academia Valdor and graduated in Architecture from The University of Havana. At eight years old, she spent a year at Mater Misericordia in Merion never imagining that 34 years later she would return to the area to raise her seven children and her nephew, Eduardo Cowley. She faced adversity with dignity, courage and faith in God: from the loss of her mother country to the loss of her first born, Maria de Lourdes. The ultimate loving mother, she was a pillar of fortitude, wisdom and spirituality to all who knew her. She gave generously to charity and was devoted to helping others, especially the underprivileged and the unborn. Her loyalty, resilience, patience, humility, elegance, sweetness and intelligence, and her passionate commitment to her principles and her causes, illuminate a path for family, former students, and friends to follow. The viewing will be held on Friday, October 5, from 6 to 8pm at Donohue Funeral Homes, 366 W. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA followed by the funeral on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10 am at Saint Katherine of Siena Church, E. Lancaster and Aberdeen Avenues, Wayne, PA In lieu of flowers those who wish to, may make their donations to National Right to Life www.nrlc.org or to Aclamo Family Centers www.aclamo.org
