Lawrence Sanford Bale

Lawrence Sanford Bale 66, of Narberth, Pennsylvania passed away at the Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Memorial Service will be on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Narberth, PA. Dr. Bale, son of Jean Lockwood Moore Bale and Mills Lawrence Bale, grew up in California as the youngest of three brothers, Dwight Wilbur Bale and Malcolm Lewis "Mac" Bale. He attended Hemet High School in Hemet, CA, received his B.A. at the University of Hawaii, a MA at Marquette University, and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Between 1976 and 1984, Dr. Bale traveled extensively for research and study to Thailand, Japan and Germany, and he taught English in Japan and Germany. While living in Frankfurt, Germany, Dr. Bale attended the Philosophische Theologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen, and met his wife Martina with whom he returned to the United States in 1984. Dr. Bale taught at Temple University and Rutgers University while writing his Ph.D. in "Ecology of mind in interreligious dialogue: Interreligious dialogue approached through Gregory Bateson's epistemology of the sacred". Dr. Bale who was an amazing poet is survived by his wife Martina Weinberg Bale and his daughter Annabelle Jean Elisabeth Bale of Narberth, PA. Stuard Funeral Home
