Lawrence R. "Larry" Davis 90, of Boynton Beach, Florida and Ocean City, New Jersey formerly of Narberth, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 2, 2012 at Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, Pennsylvania. He was born on November 15, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a son of the late Lawrence R. Davis, Sr. and Grace (Stillwagon) Davis of Narberth, Pennsylvania. He is survived by a sister, Jane Davis Odell and her husband Robert, West Chester, PA and a brother, J. Thomas Davis and his wife, Annette, of Everett, PA formerly of Newtown Square, PA; four nieces and two nephews: Robert H. Odell, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; Nancy O. McMullen of Berwyn, PA; Cindy McEtchin of Pleasanton, CA; Thomas B. Davis, of Paoli, PA; Heather A. Davis, of Coatesville, PA; and Holly D. Anderson, Everett, PA. Larry was a graduate of Lower Merion High School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also studied at Cornell University, Temple University and the University of Hawaii. He had a passion for basketball and excelled as a player for Lower Merion High School and the University of Pennsylvania. In addition he played for one year at Cornell University. He was an officer in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and participated in the assault and capture of Okinawa, Shima and the Ryuku Islands. After his discharge, he was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict and served at Camp Pendleton, CA. Larry spent most of his working career as a teacher of history and social studies at Lower Merion High School, and was the head basketball coach for much of that time. His fondest memories were of his days there and of his association with fellow teachers, associates, colleagues and students. He felt indeed privileged. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Peace, West Laurel Hill Cemetery and Bringhurst and Turner Funeral Homes, 215 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. Full military honors will be conducted by the local Marine Corp Division. If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Davis to a
