Louisa Jameson Hannay Obituary
Louisa Jameson Hannay, 96, passed away on August 16, 2014 in Gladwyne, PA. She was born in El Paso, Texas on October 20, 1917, and graduated from the University of Texas with a teaching degree in 1938. Louisa taught elementary school in El Paso until 1942. In 1941, Louisa married George B. Hannay who served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II. After George's discharge in 1945, the couple settled in the Philadelphia area where they raised three children, Helen, Norman, and John. Louisa returned to teaching in 1961, joining the faculty of the Haverford School where she brought the joy of learning and a sense of discipline to many generations of first graders until her retirement in 1984. She and George moved to Waverly Heights in Gladwyne in 2001. George died in 2006 after 65 years of marriage. In retirement, Louisa enjoyed gardening, playing golf and bridge, and being with her family and her friends at Waverly Heights. She was an active member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church and led the walking group for several years. Louisa is survived by her children Helen H. Jensen (Rudolf), Norman J. Hannay (Sharon Reed), four grandchildren (Tomas, Eleanor, Evan and Margaret), and two great grandchildren (Eden and Robin). She was preceded in death by her husband, and her son, John C. Hannay (who is survived by his wife Roberta J. Hannay). There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2 pm in the chapel of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.
