Patricia Pillion Obituary

Patricia Leith Pillion, 77, died peacefully at her home in Wayne, PA on June 27, 2013, ending a lengthy and courageous battle with MS and its many side effects, throughout which she remained positive and engaged with her family and friends. Born on September 14, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pat was the youngest daughter of Alfred and Marion Leith of Villanova, PA. She was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Rittenhouse and Nancy Shorney. Pat graduated from Lower Merion High School, where she was an outstanding athlete, and attended Smith College. She was a successful realtor and a very active volunteer at St. David's Church, including serving as chair of its annual fair for several years. She was a talented artist and craftsperson, community activist and loyal friend. Pat's other passions included spending time at Blue House Jamaica, gardening and raising her many dogs. Pat was the glue of her loving family and is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Thomas C. Pillion, Jr., their four sons, Thomas C. Pillion, III (and his wife Bonnie Buckley) of Ardmore, Michael L. Pillion (Sally) of Wayne, L. Andrew Pillion of Devon, and Robert W. Pillion (Jeanette) of Las Vegas, Nevada, and 11 adoring grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July, 2, 2013 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 Valley Forge Rd Wayne, PA 19087. Visitation was Tuesday morning 10-11 in the Chapel at St. David's. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 30 S. 17th Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19103

Mrs. Pillion was a remarkable mother of boys who raised fine men. The world is truly diminished with her passing.

Pat Pillion was one of the nicest ladies I have ever known. My childhood is filled with fond memories of visiting the Pillion home and greeted by her warm smile, cute giggle and charming personality. Carry on Pillion men with the knowledge that you were truly blessed.

Pat, I will miss your beautiful smile, and the way your eyes lit up each time one of your sons entered the room. I am so thankful for the time we had together...it wasn't long enough. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have had you as a part of our lives, you will be forever treasured. You were a gift.

Mrs. Pillion was so welcoming to the many boys who were always in and out of her home. She was warm and engaging whenever I ran into her throughout the years. What a wonderful mom for my friends!

In remembrance of Mrs. Pat Pillion I can't help but reflect on the outward strength & determination that this wonderful woman possessed as she forged ahead under such insurmountable obstacles; suffering not only with M.S. but ultimately the cursed stroke. I would often visit the Pillion household (as I took on the honor of cutting her hair) and had the opportunity to spend quality time with Pat, Tom, Homer, Kitty, Finney & Gabby. I realized how weary she had become from the many years of declining health but never did she give up! Tom and Pat were a unique couple__dedicated and proud to be each other's partner__but nevertheless, independent in every way: two strong personalities working as one loving heart.
TOM PILLION is my hero and although that word is given out so freely now a days__make no mistake that there was never a more dedicated or loving husband, who recognized his beloved's health issues and stood-up to the call in such a selfless manner. If in this LIFE we were to have but one chance to have such a dedicated and loyal friend (or husband) as TOM PILLION, we would then better understand the true meaning of the words: Committed, Loving and Caring. Tom will miss PAT greatly, for his LIFE will now be forever altered. I hope that he understands as PAT did__that her TOM was not only her loving husband, but truly HER CHAMPION .
And now PAT, you are at last free from the torment and shackles of those Earthly bonds. Watch over your loving family from the HEAVENS and realize that you are greatly missed by all who came to know you!

Pat Pillion was a spark of light to everyone she touched. She brought out the best in everyone. She was one of the smartest people I've ever and will ever know....she knew SO MUCH about SO MUCH. She was an incredible grandmother and I know my children will forever hold a special place in their hearts for her.
