Peter Marcantonio Obituary

Peter J. (Tuck) Marcantonio Nov. 21, 1916 - Jan. 29, 2013 Tuck was born to Italian immigrants, Giovanni Di Marcantonio and Domenica Tiberi Di Marcantonio on November 21, 1916 in Wayne, Pennsylvania. He was the first child born in the U.S. His siblings were Louise, Louie, Ann, Andrew, John and Fred. They were a close family. All are deceased except Fred. From high school, Tucks life was full of music. He was in the first Radnor High School Marching Band. He recorded in New York with Isham Jones' big band and played with many famous names. In 1934, at age 17, he and a small combo sailed to Paris on the SS Paris. He enlisted in the Air Corps, then later re-enlisted in the regular Army and served from 1941 to 1945. He married Blenda Okander and moved to Utah. They had three children, Paul, JoAnn and Kay and later divorced. Tuck married Lois Passey in May 1978. He was the owner of Argus Optical. Tuck and Lois worked together, traveled, and were totally immersed in his music career. His combo band played 18 years at Willow Creek Country Club. He also played 20 years for the Phoenix Jazz Band, and filled in for the Shriners' Band. Tuck loved golf, and was proud of his hole-in-one. He was an active member of the Salt Lake Optimist Club for 13 years, he served as Bugler for the Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard, Chapter 6 playing Taps at approximately 3,000 funerals. Tuck was honored for his thousands of hours of volunteerism. He was a great brother, trumpet player, conversationalist, proud Italian. Tuck was an inspiration to many. He will be missed by his brother Fred, his loving wife Lois, son Paul (Sheri), granddaughter Karith, daughter JoAnn Davis (David Ward), granddaughter Erika, great granddaughters Kayla and Audrey, and daughter Kay (Larry Smith). He was Dad, grandpa and great grandpa to Lois' children, Mark and Char Passey, Jill and Brad Bailey, Ann and Kim Harding and many grand and great grandchildren. He was a loving, caring man, easy to live with, full of fun, always optimistic and generous. Peter means "Rock". Through the loss of Lois' two sons and many other incidents, he was a rock for her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 4th at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
