Rosemary C. Alvaré

Rosemary C. (nee Cosgrove) Alvar, 88 years of age, passed away on November 6, 2014, after a courageous two-year battle with Alzheimer's. Formerly of Berwyn and Wayne, PA, she spent her final years at St. Joseph's Villa in Flourtown, PA. Rosemary was married for 63 happy years to Louis J. Alvar. She was the loving mother of Charles J. (Claire), Rodie Alvar Henson (Tom), Anita Alvar Gaynor (George), Helen Alvar Duggan (Brian), and the late Louise H. Alvar. She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way). Rosemary was a 1948 graduate of Rosemont College in Rosemont, PA, where she majored in Spanish. She was an accomplished pianist who would play requests and classical favorites at gatherings with friends and family. She played tennis at Martin's Dam Club and the Radnor Racquet Club well into her 70s. She and her husband, Lou, were active members of St. Katharine of Siena Parish in Wayne, PA where they spent over 20 years participating in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program, supporting individuals preparing to join the Catholic faith, and those wanting to know more about the Church. Over the years, Rosemary volunteered for a number of worthy causes and organizations, including Baker Industries and Meals on Wheels. An avid reader, art lover, "gourmet cook," and traveler, she will be remembered for her life-long devotion to her late daughter Louise, her timeless beauty, and her deep, unwavering faith. A Funeral Mass was held on November 12th at St. Katharine of Siena Church in Wayne. The family has asked that donations in her memory be made to St. Joseph's Villa-Flourtown, 110 W.
