Samuel Rulon-Miller Obituary

Samuel Rulon-Miller, Jr of Beverly, Mass., passed away peacefully and surrounded by family in his home early on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61-years-old. Born on June 25, 1951, to the late Samuel Felton Rulon-Miller and Patricia Lippincott, he grew up on Philadelphia's Main Line, where he attended the Haverford School. He went on to graduate from Proctor Academy, where he was the captain of the lacrosse and football teams and worked as a volunteer firefighter. He graduated from Ripon College (Wis.) in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in economics and as a brother of the SAE fraternity. He spent many years working with Citizen's Bank's Commercial Risk Management Group, where he served as a Vice President within the group for several years. Samuel was known to be a ruthless backgammon player, besting every opponent. He initiated countless tournaments of the game over the years, swiftly defeating family and friends alike with a coy smile and a shake of the hand. Samuel has had many passions in his life. He was a skilled guitarist and harmonica player with a penchant for the blues. Samuel loved playing his harmonica on his own as well as in jam sessions with his children. His love for music didn't wane even after his diagnosis; he taught himself how to play the ukulele, strumming out a few of his most loved blues songs. Mostly, Samuel was a devoted family man, spending as much time as he could with his wife and children. Samuel is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cornelia McEneaney; his four children, Patrick and wife Angela, Samuel III and fiance Megan Kears, Eleanor and Gardner; his granddaughter, Peyton; his three siblings, William, Edgar and Margaret; and his beloved pets. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and good friends. A memorial service will be held for Samuel at St. John's Episcopal Church, 705 Hale St. in Beverly Farms, MA on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements by the Campbell - Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Salem Animal Rescue League at 4 SARL Drive, Salem, NH 03079. Information and condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.

A very fine man, blessed with a wonderful wife and family. Whenever I ran into him in various Andover stores, it was always a big hug and a warm smile. Connie, he and the kids are still missed and not forgotten all these years later. So sorry to hear this.

Sam was my best friend for over 52 years - everything that has been said is the TRUTH - We did many things over the years - Sam was Ying and I was Yang. He was the thinker and patient person and I was reckless and impulsive and we complemented each other and I will sorely miss my best friend.

The McGoff sisters are feeling sad, and thinking of the Rulon-Millers at this time. As childhood friends and neighbors of the McEneanys, not all had the privilege of meeting Sam. Sam must have made quite an impression on us, as we raved to the other sisters about the great husband Connie had snagged. He was friendly, easy going, and made our party of five feel at home instantly. Such a gracious host, talented musician (ditto for the children), and true family man. Rosemary (a.k.a Rossa), Meredith, and I, along w/Rossa's nieces Cody and Reilly, were invited to spend the night at the Rulon-Miller home en route to Logan Airport, marking the end to our summer vacation six years ago. Sam transformed our night of reluctant transition into a magical, memorable evening, then was gracious enough to wake us up early the next morning, in order to catch our plane. As we drove away in our rental car, we lamented that we couldn't stay longer (Connie and Sam likely had an altogether different conversation) I can even remember feeling envious of the Rulon-Miller's door neighbors! So glad we met Sam, but sorry we didn't get to spend more time around him. You must have so many fond memories...

My deep condolences to Sam's wonderful family. Broke my
heart to hear of this. How very special he was to me and my family, so very long ago. Sam was a gem!!

January 4, 2013

Our deepest sympathies to the entire Rulon-Miller clan. All those years spent at NACC and at your house with all of our little children running around and Connie making the Bloodies in the kitchen was truly an era we hold precious. Sam was always so patient and kind coming home to friends that just didn't know that it was "time to leave". He was the best!

Sam had a sense of humor that was contagious. I knew when I went to pledge SAE I wanted him to be my "Big Brother" (Mentor). He was rewarded with a bottle of liquor instead of the traditional "Pledge Paddle".
