William Dinwiddie Obituary

William S. Dinwiddie passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 surrounded by his loving family after bravely battling cancer for many months. He was 67. Raised in Sudbury, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Alva W. and Helen (Snavely) Dinwiddie. He had resided in Wynnewood for the past 26 years. He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College (1969) and University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work (1975). Bill was a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam war and served two years of alternative service. This led to a lifetime career in social services, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, an organization dedicated to providing advocacy, training and mental health services. He was passionately committed to serving those in need throughout his career. For his valued leadership in and commitment to the field of mental health, the Mental Health Association recently honored him with the Bell of Hope Award. He was a lover of the great outdoors and spent many happy hours over his lifetime playing tennis, basketball and golf, skiing, swimming in the ocean, hiking, and meticulously grooming his yard. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jennifer (Monroe), and his loving children, Adam Dinwiddie, Sarah West, and Laura Dinwiddie. He is also survived by one sister, Ann Wing, a large extended family, and his faithful dog Cody. A Life Celebration followed by a reception will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 11 AM at Ardmore United Methodist Church, 200 Argyle Road, Ardmore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill's memory to CEO's Office, Mental Health Association of Southeaster Pennsylvania, 1211 Chestnut Street, Suite 1100, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Donations can also be made on the memorial page at www.mhasp.org. Chadwick & McKinney Funeral Home Inc. www.chadwickmckinney.com

Bill was the best boss I ever worked for. I think I had the opportunity to tell him when he worked at MHASP. He had a caring soul, which I had never experienced with any other C.E.O.

My prayers and sympathy to your family. Bill hired me at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in the early 80's and when I met him I immediately knew that he would be one of the most professional men that I would meet in my career. I still benefit from the weeks that he took me under his wing.
