Jane O'Brien

Jane McCarthy O'Brien formerly of Villanova, PA and most recently Wellington, Fl, passed away peacefully on April 21,2012 at her home in Florida. Jane was born to loving parents Alice and Arthur F. McCarthy in Philadelphia, PA. She received her education from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Overbrook, PA and Georgetown Visitation Junior College in Washington, DC. She relished teaching kindergarten at Waldron Academy and later taught Montessori at the Greene Towne School in Philadelphia. While raising her family in Villanova and contributing her time to various charities, Jane cultured her creative skills and shared her interests in house restoration, interior and landscape design and culinary arts with family and scores of friends. During the past seven years in Wellington she expanded her pursuits to include management of her equestrian stables with passion and elan. Her strength, playfulness and optimism remain with all of those who loved her. Her children said that when people first met their mother they were taken by her beauty and her charm. Later on they got to know her humor and kindness. Jane is survived by her three adoring children, Frank L. O'Brien, IV, Alice J O'Brien, Arthur C. O'Brien, her sister, Carol M. Farrell and her former husband Frank L O'Brien, III. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Arthur F. McCarthy, Jr. A funeral Mass in celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthias Church, 128 Bryn Mawr Ave., Bala Cynwyd PA. Relatives and friends are invited to greet her family Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Church. Private interment. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to St. Matthias Church, Bala Cynwyd PA or St. Rita Catholic Church, Wellington FL.
