Anne Price Obituary

Anne Gill Price 95, died October 6, 2013, at the Quadrangle in Haverford from complications of dementia. A former resident of Swarthmore, Anne had resided at the Quadrangle since 1991. Born in Philadelphia May 7, 1918, to Edwin and Emeline Parker, Anne was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and Arcadia University (formerly known as Beaver College) and taught at Upper Darby High School. In 1941, she married William Hepbron Gill, Jr. and worked with the American Red Cross during WW II. After Bill returned from active duty, they moved to Drexel Hill and then Swarthmore, where they raised two sons, and William Hepbron Gill, III and Douglas Parker Gill. Active in civic and community programs, Anne was the last surviving charter member of P.E.O Chapter AI, Swarthmore. She was also member of the DAR, the Union League, the Swarthmore Garden Club, the Chester and Delaware County Historical Societies, Swarthmore Presbyterian Church and Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. Anne had a life-long interest in genealogy, was a certified genealogist and served on the Board of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. She also received her real estate license in 1969. A long-time supporter of Lehigh University, she organized and chaired the Women of Lehigh and in 1992 received Lehigh's Meritorious Service Award. Anne was an avid golfer and enjoyed memberships at Rolling Hills, Aronomink, and Merion. Anne was predeceased by her parents, her husband William H. Gill, Jr., son Douglas Parker Gill, brother Leon Parker, and husband Charles C. Price, Jr. She is survived by her son, William H. Gill, III (Phyllis) of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law Ann Lanahan Gill of Wayne; grandchildren Susan Gill Kleinschmidt (Jeff) of Charlotte, Catherine Martin Gill Falcone (Rick) of Strafford, Elizabeth Pratt Gill of Boston, Douglas Parker Gill, Jr. of Conshohocken; and great grandchildren Will, Kira, and Taylor Kleinschmidt of Charlotte. Also left to cherish her memory are Charles Price's children Sally Honey (Stan) of Palo Alto; Sue Neal of San Diego; Charles Price IV of Fallbrook, CA; Pat Paxson (Dean) of Sun Lakes, AZ; and Judy Waterman of Redwood Valley, CA.
