Marie Zoufaly 1927 - 2015 MANCHESTER, VT. Marie Rita Zoufaly, 87 and a lifelong resident of Manchester, VT died Sunday September 27th 2015. She was married to Louis Anthony Zoufaly who predeceased her in January of 2014. Daughter of Canadians Aime Bernard and Rose Ida Choquette, Marie was born in Bangor, NY December 6, 1927. When the Rutland Railroad expanded into VT to encourage the ski industry, the family moved to Manchester where her father was first an engineer on the line from Manchester to Montreal and later became the Station Master in Manchester Depot. After seven years and becoming proficient in English, her parents proudly became naturalized citizens. Marie spoke only French until she began attending public school in the Center School in Manchester at age 7. She is a graduate of Saint Joseph's high school in Rutland, VT where she boarded at the convent with her sister, Noella, during those years. Marie became employed at the Ford garage in Manchester as a bookkeeper. After the close of WWII, she met and married Louis, February 1949, and was married for 64 years. Later, Marie became a clerk for USPS, in the Village of Manchester and retired from service there. Together they lived a sincere and genuinely committed family life. As a woman of great faith when she was in her early twenties, Marie became a member of the Catholic Daughters of America (CDA), Court Saint Rita Post #894. For 68 years Marie served and supported many offices including Regent, Vice Regent, Financial Secretary, Recording Secretary and Treasurer. She truly valued all her fellow Catholic Daughters and the fellowship granted her, and was grateful to be a part of the giving work that the Court accomplishes. Marie especially enjoyed her husband and family, reading, flower gardening, antiques, history and world events, traveling and spending winters in a warm place. Marie is survived by five children 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her children are, Aime William (m. Sally Ameden), Michele Rose, Louise Marie, Michael Robert (m. Laurinda Corman) and Thomas Joseph; and niece, Roberta Aimee White who was a special part of her home. Her grandchildren are, Andrew and Angela (Holt) Zoufaly; Brooks, Damon, Ryan and Blair Mone, Wyatt and Luke Thompson, Sean and Megan Zoufaly, Zachary and Joel Zoufaly. Her great-grandchildren are, Gwyneth Holt; Tori, Ethan, Alex, Sydney, Sophia, Olivia, Adrianna, Jake, Ava and Gemma Mone; Wyatt and Wade Thompson; and Rheanna and Payson Thompson. Other surviving family members are Charles Abbott, Janet (Bromley) Choquette, Emil and Marion (Dupree) Zoufaly, Howard and Andrea (Hantscheruk) Zoufaly. Marie was the oldest member of her family and predeceases her youngest sister, Rose Marie Abbott of Hingham, MA. Her other siblings were, Noella Clare Littman, Anita Theresa Brown and Bernard Aime Choquette. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ our Savior Parish (Saint Pauls), Bonnet Street in Manchester on Saturday, October 10, at 12p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Mattison officiating. Burial will take place at the Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester at later date.
