Harold Heye Obituary

Harold F. Heye

DORSET Harold F. Heye, prominent local businessman, passed away on April 22, 2013, in Clearwater, Fla., with his loving family by his side.Mr. Heye was born in Dusseldorf, Germany, son of Margarete and Hans Heye. His family later moved to the Hague. He attended St. George's and St. John's Military academies. He attended Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., and the Wharton School of Business.

He was a member of the Armed Forces in World War II and proudly served in the Pacific Theatre on Kwajalein and the initial assault on Leyte Island and Okinawa.

Mr. Heye served on the boards of Morton Plant Hospital, Gerresheimer Factories and subsidiaries in Germany and Holland as well as Ruth Eckerd Hall, The First National Bank of Clearwater and Carlouel Yacht Club. He was a director and co-owner of the High and Dry Marina, Island Yacht Harbor and Pier 60 in Clearwater. He was also a part of the original team of developers for Island Estates and one of the original benefactors of Ruth Eckerd hall.

Mr. Heye, who resided in Belleair and Dorset, was a longstanding member of the Belleair Country Club, Carlouel Yacht Club, and was a member of the Rotary club, Privateers Men's Club, and Ekwanok Club of Manchester.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Gerlach Heye; children, Deborah Neal, Rick Heye, Christopher Heye and Kingsley Gerlach III, Mary Gerlach Hickok, John Gerlach, and Stephen Gerlach, and 12 cherished grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Ruth Eckerd Hall and Morton Plant Hospital. A memorial service was held on April 25, 2013.
