Helen Eaton

1922 - 2013 MANCHESTER VILLAGE Helen Organ Eaton, 90, former resident of Manchester Village, passed away on Friday, April 26, at Emeritus at Fillmore Pond in Bennington.

Helen was born on Nov. 24, 1922, in Pittsfield, Mass., the eldest child of Vernon and Madeline Organ.

She married Edward F. Eaton on Nov. 13, 1943, and they lived in Delmar, Manlius and Glenmont, N.Y., over the course of their married life, before retiring to Manchester in 1987.

Helen graduated from Syracuse University and taught home economics at Ravena, Coeymans, Selkirk High School for several years, before becoming a real estate broker and founding her own agency in the Albany area.

Helen will be remembered as a gracious, loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend, who gave generously of her time to help others. As an active member of the Manchester community, she enjoyed dancing, swimming and helping organize events for local charities, including the Dorset Players, Friends of Hildene, and the First Congregational Church, among many others.

Helen is survived by three daughters, Gail Eaton Meagher and her husband, Walter, of Fayetteville, N.Y., Deborah Gage Eaton, and her husband, Bryan Bruce, of Northampton, Mass., and Susan Eaton Ramsey, and her husband, James, of Chatham, N.J.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her brothers, Craig and Vernon Organ, and a sister, Nancy Organ Dallmeyer.

She was predeceased by Edward, who died in 2011, their son Scott, and her sister, Lois Organ Totaro.
