Fielding Jones

1934-2013 Nancy Fielding Hulick Jones, 79, a resident of Manchester Village, died at her home Sunday, November 24, 2013. The daughter of James Edgar Hulick and Elizabeth Lewis Gray, she was born in New York City on July 18, 1934. She attended The Brearley School and graduated from Vassar College, class of 1956. Following graduation, she lived and worked in Paris for two years before pursuing a career in publishing in New York City. Mrs. Jones is the author of several Little Golden Books, including the classic A Day on the Farm, and was the first translator from French of the Tin Tin comic series. An avid reader and an accomplished piano player, she also loved tennis, opera and traveling. Surviving are children, Mary Elizabeth Allen, Margaret Lewis Allen, Heather Allen Nalet, Bronwen Gladding Wolf and James Winfield Jones; nine grandchildren; and sister, Elizabeth Hulick. She was preceded in death by her former husband Thomas Allen and her daughter in-law Megan McCulloch-Jones. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Mrs. Jones will be held at Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester, Vermont on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 4 PM. Reverend John Mitchell will officiate. Interment will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Brewster Funeral Home.
