Byron Grant Sherman, Jr., MD a resident of Sunset Lane, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013, at Equinox Terrace in Manchester, surrounded by his loving family.
Byron was born in New York City on April 24, 1920, the son of Byron G. and Icy (Curtis) Sherman, Sr. He graduated from Morristown High School, class of 1938, received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina, and received his Medical Degree from New York University.
He served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division in North Africa and Sicily, being honorably discharged in 1944.
He did his internship at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., and his residency in anesthesia at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia.
Byron had an anesthesia practice in Morristown, N.J., from 1952-1985.
He and his wife, Gail moved to Vermont in 1986, where Byron enjoyed camping, metal and woodworking, and made RC model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Gail (Fisher) of Manchester Center, whom he married June 9, 1951, in Honesdale, Pa.; his children, Leslie McDonald, Lynne Welsh and her husband, Scott, of Manchester Center, and Lorelee Jones and her husband, Eric, of Waynesboro, Va.; grandchildren, Megan McDonald Poljacik and her husband Nathan, Peter McDonald, Emily and Kelsey Welsh, and Melissa and Mitchell Jones; sister ,Natalie Kleinkauf of Hackettstown, N.J., and nieces Barbara Mackenzie of Morristown, N.J., and Annie Gunnin of Jasper, Ga.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside funeral services for Byron with military honors will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester. There will be no visiting hours.
