Emile W. Georgett

1925-2013 Emile W. Georgett of Peru, Vermont died peacefully Saturday, June 29th 2013.

He was born May 25, 1925 in Brooklyn New York, the son of Martha and Emmanual Georgett. Growing up in Westfield New Jersey Emile was a championship swimmer and very active in boy scouts earning his Eagle Scout badge. Upon graduating from Westfield High School he enlisted in the Coast Guard then served in the Navy during World War II and as a radioman on a subchaser in the North Atlantic.

After the war he received his bachelor degree in economics from Gettysburg College. He joined Union Carbide Corporation in 1952, working in Sales and Marketing functions for 34 years and was well respected among his customers and colleagues in the plastics industry.

Living in Boonton, New Jersey for 24 years, he served on the Board of Education, was very involved in coaching little league, camping, scouting and raising their three sons and niece. He additionally was involved in the early days of Hospice working with a small group at Riverside Hospital in Boonton to achieve third party payments for Hospice care that later became the National Hospice Organization.

He retired to Peru, Vermont in 1986, was an active member of Wantastiquet Rotary and served as president for two years. He was an auditor and member of the planning board for the Town of Peru and a member of the Plastics Pioneers Association.

He was an avid skier and golfer and loved to travel to foreign countries with his wife and friends. In 1998 he lost his sight after many operations in Boston. Despite his inability to ski, play golf, read and drive, he remained active, cheerful, optimistic and was determined to continue a normal lifestyle. He was an inspiration to those who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years Janice and three sons: Gary, his wife Jean and children Jessica and Evan of Kinnelon, NJ; Gregg and his wife Theresa and daughter Katie of Dublin, Ohio; Christopher, his wife Rosemary of Stockton NJ. and children Patrick and Noel; niece Aimee Santich, her husband Charles and daughter Taylor of Manhasset Long Island.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 4th at 1 pm at Emile's beloved Peru Congregational Church in Peru Vermont.
