Evelyn Packman Obituary
Evelyn Packman passed away peacefully on July 14, 2018. Evelyn was born in New York City on August 4th,1921, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dora Pesin. The family later moved to Far Rockaway in Queens New York where Evelyn attended Far Rockaway High School and excelled as a student and athlete. Evelyn played softball and tennis, ran track and was an expert swimmer. Evelyn had a brother Daniel and a sister Bea who predeceased her. In 1944, she married her sweetheart of many years Abraham (Abe) Packman upon his return from Europe where he served in the US Army. Evelyn and Abe had two children, Theodore (Ted) and Myra. Evelyn is survived by Ted Packman, a retired teacher, his wife Judith, a psychologist, and their grown children Scott and Amanda Packman. Ted and Judith reside in San Diego, California. Scott, an attorney, and his wife Cheryl, a psychologist, reside in NY as does Amanda. Evelyn's daughter Myra, an attorney, resides in Dorset, Vermont with her husband David Meiselman, also an attorney. Their daughter Rebecca, resides in Chicago, Illinois. Evelyn was also the great grandmother of Ezra, Ethan and Madeline. For many years, Evelyn worked in Manhattan as a full time bookkeeper for several successful businesses. Evelyn and Abe resided in Brooklyn and then Tom's River, New Jersey. After Abe passed in 2004, Evelyn moved to Westchester to be nearer family. For the past five years, Evelyn was a resident of Equinox Village in Manchester, Vermont. In Vermont, Evelyn made many friends and was socially active while enjoying her needlepoint and reading novels. Evelyn was involved and engaged despite her age and was an ardent observer of politics and current events. Evelyn will be remembered for her sharp wit, her engaging smile and her ability to make friends wherever she went. Evelyn was buried on 7/17 on Long Island next to her husband and other family members.
