Richard T. Smith

1920 - 2013 MANCHESTER Richard Thomas Smith was born July 27, 1920, the son of Thomas and Beatrice Smith. He was a native of Manchester and was currently a resident of rural St. Landry Parish near Church Point, La. Richard passed away peacefully at 5:10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, at his residence. He was 92.

He served proudly in World War ll with the Coast Guard and was a lifelong member of the Groton, Conn., Elks Lodge.

Richard worked as a Purchasing Agent for General Dynamics, and retired in Idaho. In the early 90's he transplanted to Ocean Springs, Miss., where he owned/operated several Jackson Hewitt Offices in the Gulf Coast area.

In 2010, he moved to Louisiana with his daughter's family, where he loved yard work, gardening, chocolate chip ice cream and watching golf.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Allison Stelly, and her husband, James, of Church Point, La.; son, Kevin, and his wife, Sonia, of Watertown, Mass.; son, Mark, and his wife, Joy, of Kent, Wash;, his four grandchildren, Christian Stelly, Mason, Damian and Julianna Smith and five step-grandchildren, Ryan Foley, Robert Barger, Blake, Brandon and Bradley Stelly, and a host of family and friends.

RTS was a very intelligent, outstanding, generous and dedicated father, grandfather and father-in-law. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside service/Interment will be held at the Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester at noon, on July 6, 2013.
