Ramon A. Carrano
1925-2013 MANCHESTER Ramon A. Carrano, 87, a resident Manchester, Vt., passed away January 18, 2013 at his home.
Ramon was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 18, 1925, the son of Robert Carrano and Mary (Cavallo) Carrano. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in New York, N.Y.; John's University and Brooklyn Law School. Ramon worked as an attorney before moving to Vermont in 1966. He worked in real estate and insurance before becoming the dispatcher for the Manchester Police Department. Ramon was a longtime EMT for Manchester Rescue Squad and was the former Manchester Health Officer. After retirement from the police department, he ran the ticket booth at Bromley Mountain and was a starter in the summer at Equinox Country Club. Ramon's passion was sailing and he enjoyed listening to jazz music and watching sports. He was a New York Knicks, Mets and Giants fan and had the original subscription to Sports Illustrated. Ramon also enjoyed spending time with family and his Battenkill Boat Club friends.
Ramon was a member of the United States Air Force as an Aviation Cadet Sergeant during World War II, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and a 50 year member of the Lions Club.
Ramon is survived by his son, Gregory Carrano and his wife Cindy of Williston, Vt.; his daughter , Cindy Hayford and her husband Buddy of Wilmington, Vt.; his brother, Michael Carrano and his wife Dee of Florida; his sister, Martha Mirabella of New Jersey; his former wife, Elaine Carrano of Colchester, Vt.; his grandchildren, Kate Hayford of San Francisco, Calif., Scott Hayford of Wilmington, Vt., Kasey Kilburn and his wife Mindy of Essex, Vt., Trever Kilburn and his fiance Ashley Sykes of Colchester, Vt.; his great, granddaughter, Reese Kilburn; many nieces and nephews; and some very special friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Clifford Carrano, who died August 29, 2010.
A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated Saturday January 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish (St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church) in Manchester, Vt. Interment will follow in the family lot in Factory Point Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
