Peter Clark Swan
1948 - 2013 RUPERT Peter Clark Swan, 64, a resident of Rupert, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Southern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
He was born in New York City Sept. 22, 1948, the son of the late Kingsley Swan Jr. and Selina Strong Hobart, who survives. He attended prep schools in New England and later attended The San Francisco Art Institute.
He was married to Kerry Ellis in 1976 in Sarasota, Fla. Peter and Kerry owned and operated Cygnet Farm, a thoroughbred horse farm, first in Hebron, N.Y., then in Aiken, S.C. Peter also played polo and was a member of the Aiken Polo Club.
He is survived by his divorced wife, Kerry Ellis-Swan; his son, Macintosh Swan; his daughter-in-law, Andrea Swan; his two grandchildren, Macintosh and Valenzea of Hinesburg; his mother, Selina Hobart of Mystic, Conn.; his sister, Pamela Connell of Wakefield, R.I., and his brother, Kingsley Swan III of Wakefield, R.I.
Peter travelled the U.S. extensively throughout his life, via motorcycles, sports cars, and trucking trailers full of horses. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was well known for his marvelous sense of humor and his quick wit. He will always be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit and his deep devotion to the people and animals that he loved.
