Walter Singhaus
MANSFIELD: Walter Singhaus, 72, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday morning, June 22, 2013 at his home. Born November 29, 1940 in Scio, Ohio, he was the son of the late Katherine I. (Poland) and Charles Singhaus. After graduation from Flushing High School, Walter joined the U.S. Navy serving for four years. His most proud moment of his service was when his ship picked up the first American astronaut.
Walter was a hard worker, never taking a sick day in his 34 years at Gorman Rupp Co. where he retired as 3rd shift supervisor. He continued to work until his illness made it too difficult. Walter was a member of Father's Garden Christian Fellowship. He was very proud of his yard and enjoyed yard work and riding his bike. The most important moments in his life were spent in the company of his family.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane (Christian) Singhaus; daughters, Tammy Shoemaker of Shelby and Pam (Mike) Grassick of Ontario; grandchildren, Tarah (Jesse) Bishop of Shelby, Brandon Grassick U.S.A.F. stationed in CA and Josh (Liz) Grassick of Ontario; great-grandchildren, Caden, Tanner, Gavin and Natalie; two sisters, Juanita Higgenbotham of Mansfield and Sarah (Jack) Conley of Lloydsville; one brother, Clarence Singhaus of FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.
A funeral service conducted by Pastor Philip Banks will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. Burial will follow in Windsor Park Cemetery with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Diane, My deepest Condolences, I remember Walt as a good friend of mine and Charlie's. When we worked for Rupp Industries before 1976. He was always singing "Sunshine on My Shoulders makes me Happy". He was a great friend to Charlie, before we left for NC. It saddens me to have seen this. But one day we will all be together. I lost Charlie almost a year ago, so I know what you are going through. If you need to call me I can be reached at 704-779-9307. God be with you and your Family to bring you through this. Charlene Bragg
