Harold E. Russell
GALION: Harold E. Russell, 84, of rural Galion, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at home.
Born October 9, 1929 in Hammond, Ill., he was the son of the late Merle R. and Rose (Hawkey) Russell.
Harold graduated from High School in Tolono, Ill. in 1949 when he joined the United States Navy and served with the Navy Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He spent most of his early life in Tolono, ll. until moving to Galion in 1966. Harold married the former Wanda Hawn in 1951, later marrying G. Maxine (Wilson) Russell who preceded him in death Sept. 21, 2008.
A carpenter by trade, Harold worked as a union carpenter until his retirement in 1992. The last 17 years of his career were working as a foreman and superintendent with Weithman Brothers, Inc. of Galion.
A former member of Blooming Grove United Methodist church, Harold belonged to most of the Galion veteran's organizations, including Polk Township AMVETS Post 1979, Army-Navy Garrison 987, American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, and V.F.W. Post 4329.
Surviving are two sons, Michael E. Russell, formerly of Galion and Randy (Denise) Russell of Glendale, Ariz.; two daughters, Loretta Arrington, of Newport, Tenn., and Tanya D. (Jim Schenk) Russell, of rural Galion; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Donald J. Russell, of Missouri and Dale F. Russell of Texas and four step-children, Keith Harden of Nashville, Tenn., Kathy (Kevin) Cummings of Champagne, Ill., Kevin (Lauri) Harden of Tolono, Ill. and Kimme Harden of Urbana, Ill.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Russell.
At Harold's request no funeral services or visitation will be observed. Arrangements are in the care of Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion.
Harold and his family appreciated the care, concern and assistance provided by HomeCare Matters Hospice and Crawford County Council on Aging.
