Simmons, Gary
Gary E. "Skinny" Simmons LEXINGTON: Gary Simmons held old-fashioned values close to his heart, and would step up to help anyone. His mission in life was to put smiles on faces and to hear laughter in the hearts of all he came in contact with using his quick wit, pranks and jokes. Gary E. "Skinny" Simmons of Lexington passed away Saturday morning April 23, 2016. He was 63. Born May 15, 1952 in Mansfield, he was the son of Gene and Norma (Beal) Simmons, and was graduated from Lexington High School in 1970. Skinny worked at RC Cola, 7UP, Nickles Bakery and Bissman's in sales - "Gary could talk a doctor into being sick!" A New York Yankees fan, Gary started collecting baseball cards as a young boy. He is survived by his father Gene Simmons (Nora Goodrich) of Lexington, brother Larry (Laurie) Simmons of Lexington, sister Brenda Sue (Jim) Johnson of Marion, IN, nephews and nieces Scott, Steve, and Sam Simmons, Allison and Catrina Holt, Josh Johnson and Brian Alters; and his forever loving girlfriend Joni Wert Nigh. Skinny made numerous friends over the years because of his honesty. He had a No-Nonsense approach to romance - you knew he was happy when a sweet message was written on a scrap of cardboard. His soft-spoken voice could reach hearts like thunder, and he could read emotions by their eyes. Gary will be missed but never forgotten. His mother preceded him in death. The Simmons family will receive friends Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Sports attire is welcome - Yankees jerseys to the front of the line! Contributions in his memory to the Richland County Salvation Army or Friendly House may be made at the funeral home. Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Simmons family.
