Adams, Novelda  
Novelda E. Adams SHELBY: Novelda E. (Rhodes) Adams, age 96, resident of Shelby passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 in Bellevue Care Center, Bellevue, Ohio. Born June 6, 1918 in Ada, Ohio to Elmer and Mina (Stober) Rhodes, she was a 1936 graduate of Ada High School. Shortly thereafter she moved to Shelby with her family. On June 5, 1938 she married William Samuel Adams. Novelda worked as an office receptionist for the late Dr. Norman Straw of Shelby for many years. Survivors include her son, W. Terry (Lenora) Adams of Bellevue; granddaughter, Caren (Roger) Spears of Mt. Vernon; two great-grandchildren, Amanda (Major Daniel) Wassmuth of Las Vegas, NV, and Derek Adams of Wichita, KS; her great-great-granddaughter, Bella Mae Wassmuth; one sister, Veloice (L.H) Washburn of Dillsburg, PA; step-brother, Stanley Homerick of Castalia, OH; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Joyce) Adams of Shelby, several nieces and nephews of Shelby and Dillsburg, PA and several relatives of Ada/Lima, Ohio. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Adams in 1997; brother, Darrell (Mary Wagner) Rhodes, his step-mother, Thelma (Homerick) Rhodes; nephew, Jamie Washburn and grandson, David Adams. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Pastor Juli Lejman-Guy, of St. John's Lutheran Church of Bellevue, will officiate with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. Armstrong, David  
David M. "Digger" Armstrong SHELBY: David M. "Digger" Armstrong, age 58, died unexpectedly Monday morning, February 23, 2015, at his home in Shelby. Born December 24, 1956 in Mansfield to Roma and Katherine (Brown) Armstrong the majority of his life was spent in the Mansfield area moving to Shelby in 2010. A 1975 graduate of Lexington High School, he had worked as a landscaper for many years and was formerly employed with Mansfield Cemetery, Holcher's Company of Lexington and was currently employed with Dealers Supply Company in Crestline. David was a member of several social clubs in the Mansfield-Shelby area. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, especially deer and watching car racing and John Wayne movies. He also enjoyed following The Ohio State Buckeyes. David will be remembered as a hard worker and a good friend to all. Surviving are his two sisters, Virginia (Robert) Arnold of Shelby and Linda Armstrong (fiance, John Hristovski) of Mansfield; two brothers, Owen Armstrong of Daytona Beach, FL and Larry Armstrong of Mansfield; his nieces, Cindy Kovack, Melanie Collins Thacker, Stephanie Snyder, and Michelle Webb; his nephews, Leslie Bucy and Eddie Kurtich; other relatives and many friends, including special friend, Kevin Kirsh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Miller. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Rev. Armstrong, David E. "Dave"  
David E. "Dave" Armstrong ZANESVILLE: David E. "Dave" Armstrong, 59 of Zanesville, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 unexpectedly at his home. He was born Tuesday, February 14, 1956 in Galion, the son of Esther (Winch) Armstrong and the late Charles E. "Charlie" Armstrong. He married Marcie H. (Voss) on Saturday, August 13, 1983. Dave was a graduate Colonel Crawford High School where he lettered in baseball and was most valuable player for his junior year. He graduated from Findlay College and was employed with Zanesville City Schools as custodian at Zane Grey Elementary School. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Dave was very instrumental in starting the City of Zanesville Police Department K-9 Fund in honor of his son, Cpl. David C. Armstrong. In addition to his mother, Dave is survived by his wife, Marcie; two daughters, Laura A. Garrett and her fiancée Bart Cooper and Juila D. Caton both of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Josie Caton, Olivia Garrett and Ethan Garrett; one brother, Scott (Lauri) Armstrong of Harpster and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews including Christopher Armstrong of Harpster; and a special pet companion, Razor. Dave was preceded in death by his father; and one son, United States Army Cpl. David C. Armstrong who died February 1, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville and one hour prior to services from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Marc Caton officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park. Banks, James  
James Banks MANSFIELD: James Banks, 78, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Winchester Terrace. Born May 30, 1936 in Perrysville, he was the son of Kenneth and Ethel (Prichard) Banks. A graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, James worked at Ohio Brass and Mansfield Foundry. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers as a hobby and liked John Deere tractors. A kind hearted man, James was a great husband, dad, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Banks; children, Susan (Dan) Kilgore, Cindy (Tony) Brandt, Shelley (Jack) Honse, Edward Banks, and Kathy (Dave) McCarrick; grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua, Kristen, Benjamin, Seth, Morgan, and Emily; great grandchildren, Kooper, Keatyn, Charleston, Brooks, Cohen, Brody, Benton, and Leighton; brother, Larry (Joan) Banks, sisters, Sina Davis and Peg (Lowell) Volz; and brother-in-law, Paul Gough. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Gough; and stepmother, Creda Banks. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, conducted by Pastor Dennis Eggerton and Dan Kilgore. Friends may call prior to the service from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Bird, James  
James M. "Jim" Bird MANSFIELD: James M. "Jim" Bird, 77, of Mansfield, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at his home. Born September 8, 1937 in Galion, he was the son of Edith (Northrup) and Charles Bird, Sr. A 1956 graduate of Galion High School, Jim served with the U.S. Navy for four years and retired after 36 years from General Motors where he worked in maintenance. He was a member of the Lexington Area Senior Citizens, Moose, and a lifetime member of the Amvets #31. Jim loved animals and was always the one to feed and take care of everything for them. He was a big OSU Buckeye fan and enjoyed golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, and loved gambling trips. Jim was also blessed with a beautiful voice and was a talented guitarist. He was a wonderful and fun loving guy who loved life. He is survived by his significant other of 15 years, Sandra Spurlock of Mansfield; nephew, Wendell Napper of Norton; niece, Sandra Dawson of Ravenna; great nieces and nephews, Dawn Murray, Dale Dawson, Jeff Evans, and Jason Napper, all of Akron; great great niece and nephew, Dale and Demi Murray; step children, Bill Spurlock of Columbus and Stacy Miller of Akron; and step grandchildren, Luke and Makena Miller and J.J. and Jacoby Spurlock. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine and Janice; brother, Charles, Jr.; and nephews, Joseph and Fred. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario, conducted by Rev. Thomas Blair. Friends may call prior to the service from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Elizabeth E. Cervinski MANSFIELD: Elizabeth E. Cervinski, 92, of Mansfield, died February 25, 2015. Born April 23, 1922 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Adam and Eva (Zimmerman) Schambre. A wonderful lady who truly loved her grandchildren Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, especially to Utah to see her family, along with trips to Lake Erie. She also liked playing cards. She was a faithful member of Resurrection Parrish and was also a member of Daughters of Herman. Surviving are her daughter, Debbie (Tom) Koroknay of Lexington; sons, Jerry (Mary) Cervinski of Utah and Ed Cervinski of California; grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Renee, Jeff, Ben, and Brian; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and one more on the way; sister, Ileen Means of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Cervinski and brother, John Schambre. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
