Muth, Harold Eugene "Gene"  
Harold Eugene "Gene" Muth CARY, NC: Harold Eugene "Gene" Muth passed away at Rex Hospital Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from aspiration pneumonia. Gene was born in Galion, Ohio on May 30, 1936, the son of Harold D. and Mary Jeanette (Conaway) Muth. He was employed for many years with North Electric in Galion, OH, ITT North in Johnson City, TN, ITT/Alcatel in Raleigh, NC, ITT in Fort Wayne, IN, Kroger in Cary, NC, and most recently Kelly Window and Door. Gene was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Apex, NC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by infant son, Jeffrey Allan Muth. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth C. (Kempf) Muth; son, Gregory Muth of Johnson City; daughters, LeAnn (Michael) Reed of Raleigh and Valerie (Mike) Kelly of Cary; grandchildren, Andrew, Amanda, and Kayla Kelly; and sister, Mary Ann (Don) Heimlich of Galion. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Apex, NC. Family will receive friends from 10:15-11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Pinkston, Ruth  
Ruth A. Pinkston MANSFIELD: Ruth A. Pinkston, 68, of Mansfield, died April 13, 2015. Born November 13, 1946 in Louise, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Ginn) France. Ruth grew up in Mississippi and moved to the Mansfield area in the 1960's. She worked at Independent Towel for many years, until she decided to stay at home and take care of her children. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and fishing. A loving caregiver, Ruth enjoyed taking people in to care for them. After her children had grown, she started a day care out of her home. Ruth's biggest pride was caring for her family. Surviving are daughters, Carla Anne France, Ruth France, Melissa Pinkston, Tonya Pinkston, and Michelle Pinkston; step-son, John Lambert; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles France, Edna Logan, Walter France, Leon France, Cleon (Sandra) France, Virlena Johnson, Lewis (Betty) France, Shirley (Gregory) France, and James (Teresa) France; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Pinkston; son, Tyrone Pinkston; sister, Alice Brantley France; brothers, Lee Edward France and Willie France; and grandson, Javar France. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, conducted by Bishop Sylvester Ginn. Elizabeth Schneider MANSFIELD: Elizabeth Schneider, 90, of Mansfield passed away April 16, 2015 at Mansfield Memorial Homes. Elizabeth was born May 1, 1924 in Yugoslavia to Paul and Regina Varga Sklena. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Daughters of Herman. Survivors include her daughter Juliana Meyer of Mansfield; grandsons Karl (Laura Piscash) Meyer, Claus (Sherry) Meyer; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Samantha, Victoria, Jarrod, and Nathaniel Meyer; great-great-grandchildren McKenna and Kyle Meyer; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Josef, and five siblings. Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Sunday from 2-4pm with a vigil service at 2pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Jeremy Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Donald "Snake/Digger/Smitty" Smith MANSFIELD: Donald "Snake/Digger/Smitty" Smith, 77, of Mansfield, died April 17, 2015. Born June 26, 1937 in Mansfield, he was the son of Harley and Edith (Wolf) Smith. Digger attended Mansfield Senior High School and went on to work in the construction industry for many years until he later started his own business, DR Smith Trenching. In his free time, Digger loved mushroom hunting and boating. Surviving are his ex-wife, Sandra Smith; children, David Smith, Gary Smith, Cynthia Smith, and Bonnie Smith; grandchildren, Derek (Summer) Smith and Stephanie Kaye; great-grandson, Jayse Smith; sisters, Viola Pohl and Martha Jarvis; brother, Raymond Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Virginia Mae (Backensto) Barnd SHELBY: Virginia Mae (Backensto) Barnd, age 96, of Shelby, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at her home. She was born January 5, 1919 in Rome, Ohio the daughter of the late Gloyd W. and Susie (Mohn) Backensto. Virginia was a 1937 graduate of Shiloh High School. For a short time after graduation she worked at the "Tuby" and then owned and managed the Rome General Store for 10 years. After the store, she went to work for the General Services Administration of the U.S. Government at Wilkins Air Force Depot from which she retired. Virginia was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees and a longtime member of LifePointe Community Church in Plymouth. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and flower gardening. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of great joy to her. She is survived by her children: Larry Martin (Charlene) Barnd of Shelby, Tom Lee (Senie) Barnd of Greenfield, IN, and Patricia Anne (Dennis) Markwell of Shelby; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister: Betty Ditwiler of Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband: Merle Melvin "Biff" Barnd in 2010; brothers: Fred, Jacque, and James Backensto; sisters: Jane Snyder and Vione Baker. Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Billman, Lanny E.  
Lanny E. Billman ASHLAND: Lanny E. Billman, 65, of Ashland, passed away at his home Tuesday, April 14, following a long illness. Lanny was born February 17, 1950, in Lodi, and was the son of Marjorie (nee Bates) and Obed Billman. A 1968 graduate of Mapleton High School, Lanny lived and worked in Ashland County his entire life. He was employed by the Budd/Bosch companies for more than 25 years. On August 1, 1981, he married Linda Webb. Lanny was a traveler at heart. He and Linda traveled extensively. An avid golfer and fisherman in his younger years, Lanny golfed at St. Andrews in Scotland, and fished in Lake Erie, Canadian rivers, and off the coast of Costa Rica. With his dry sense of humor and easy smile, Lanny was able to talk with people wherever he went. At home, Lanny was always surrounded by the animals he loved. He cared for many stray cats and dogs through the years. Once they found their way to Lanny, he took them in. Along with his wife, Linda, Lanny is survived by his daughter, Stacey (John) Cole of West Salem; granddaughter, Sarah Cole of Columbus; and sister, Linda (Donald) Draper of Jeromesville. Lanny was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Earl and Sarah Webb. A celebration of Lanny's life will be held Sunday, April 19 at the Savannah United Methodist Church, Savannah. The memorial service, which will be officiated by pastor Patricia Webb Nance and Christine Webb, will begin at 5:30 PM. Friends and family may call at the church from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. Lanny's family appreciated the kindness and support of the nurses, patient caregivers, and others who work and volunteer for the Hospice of North Central Ohio.
